Tensioned membrane structures won't be erected overnight, but they can be installed quickly. The reason is that tensioned membrane structures have very few components, so once they are fabricated and shipped to the site, they can be installed in just a few weeks.                                                                                                                          

The installation phase basically has the following six steps:

1. Mobilize

This step includes on-site import, safety analysis, trade coordination, receiving equipment, tooling and material preparation, as well as inventory, quality assurance, quality control checks and bill of materials.

2. Create work spaces and channels

During this step, we install any life safety systems required and build any physical barricades needed to protect people or property and remove any unnecessary items from the work area.

3. Confirm the interface

During this step, verify that all interfaces to which the structure is attached are within tolerance and that any mechanical fasteners are set to the correct height or size.

4. Steel structure

Most membrane structures require structural steel to support them. Often times, wire ropes or strands are also integrated into the structure.

5. Membrane installation

There are two basic procedures for deploying tensile membranes.

The first is to open the diaphragm on the protective material on the ground and lift it into place using a crane or rigging.

The second is to place the folded membrane bundle on a temporary rope or web strap and deploy it in the air.

6. Details

Once the membrane is stretched out, the membrane structure installation details will be well handled. During this step, further closures will be installed (if applicable). All cleaning and refinishing will be done and a final QA/QC check will be done prior to customer visits.
